Newtown Renovations is managed by Jonathon Morrice, who has worked for several large joinery companies and on major overseas contracts over the years. He has overseen and been involved in everything from new builds to major renovations of historic properties – including Edinburgh Castle – and he and his team specialise in home and building renovations and refurbishments – including,  sash and case windows, full extensions, complete kitchen fit-outs, bespoke carpentry pieces, and all types of general joinery work.

Draught-proofing

Not renowned for being draught-free, sash and case windows can be greatly improved.

Sashes are machined with a groove to accept a pile carrier with polypropylene brushes which fill the gaps around the case. Parting beads and baton rods are also fitted with brushes which will make your window 98% draught proof, banishing rattle and draughts. Similar improvements can be done to doors.

As a further bonus, clients can expect significant noise reduction, and the added pleasure of dust free window sills; if you live in the town centre you'll know what we mean!

Painting & Decorating

We take great pride in our decorating skills. Whether you just want to freshen up a room, or want a radical makeover throughout your home, we'll find the right paint and wallpaper for you.

We are increasingly using water-based paints to deliver outstanding results for our customers. These finishes have improved incredibly over recent years and are far more eco-friendly than traditional paints.

Repointing

At Newtown Renovations, we use the most appropriate materials and skills to deliver the very best results. We point windows with Febmast which is a mix of burnt sand and linseed oil.

This traditional material has been used for centuries and is both weatherproof and flexible. For us, it is still the best way to achieve a lasting seal around windows.

Ironmongery

The ironmongery used to finish your windows is almost as important as the windows themselves. Not just functional, it should enhance the visual appeal of your windows as well.

We supply and fit all types of ironmongery in chrome or polished brass. Additionally, we can fit security locks to increase the safety of your home. Unobtrusive window vents can also be installed to sash frames, if requested.

General Maintenance

Our skill set is so broad that it should be no surprise that we are more than happy to take on general maintenance jobs as well as specific projects. There is no reason why the slightly less exciting projects in your home shouldn't receive the same care and professionalism that we bring to every job we tackle.

I want an extension done but don't know where to start.

Not to worry, we also offer free advice and can advise from start to finish what it is you will need along every step of the way.

I need to be at work at 7am - is this too early?

No problem, we’ll make sure that someone from Newtown Renovations will be there before you leave for work.

Will I have to organise my own plumber, electrician and decorator, etc?

No, we can supply all trades for all works. We work closely with partners who we know are all trustworthy, reliable and experienced.

What time do you start work? We have young children so we need to get them ready in the morning!

I have 2 young kids myself, so I know how hard it can be to organise the kids and chat to tradesmen at the same time! We can arrange a start time that will work around you and your family – whatever’s best for you.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO THE WINDOW THAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT TO what all OTHER WINDOW COMPANIES do?

We burn the window case – most companies don’t do that. They opt to plane down the side of the sash to make it slide, but if you ever get your windows burnt back in the future, you will have problems with too much ‘side play’ on the window. We also burn the sill back so once the window is painted, you have a crisp, clean painted surface.

I HAVE THREE WINDOWS IN MY WINDOW BAY, DOES THIS COUNT AS ONE WINDOW WHEN THEY ARE GETTING RENOVATED?

No, it counts as three.

Will I have to wait in TO ACCEPT deliverIES fROM YOUR SUPPLIERS?

We arrange everything, and if a delivery is going to be late, the Newtown Renovations team will make sure someone is available to take care of them.

Tradesmen are renowned for being messy - will I need to spend hours cleaning up after them?

Certainly not! We offer a full, professional cleaning service afterwards as standard, so there will be no need to worry…simply come in, sit down and relax in your beautiful home.

WHAT ARE SIMPLEX HINGES?

They are brass hinges that are fitted on the baton rod of the window to allow the bottom sash to swing in for cleaning.

I can only commend the quality and customer care that Newtown Renovations produced when undertaking an 18-month refurbishment of my Backpackers' Hostel. The team project managed the entire refurbishment - from clearing the building, renovating approx 66 sash & case windows, building new toilet facilities, replacing all doors (approx 40) to allow us to fit keyless locks, repairing all floors, fitting an 'industrial style' kitchen for the use of approx 100 guests, and painted the entire property. Logistically, this was a very difficult job due to the location and premises being in a Common Stair, 77 steps up! Newtown was extremely accommodating and considerate during the course of the works, allowing us to remain open for customers.
